Prof. Sophia Seung-Yoon Lee
이승윤 교수는 중앙대학교 사회복지학부 교수로, 옥스퍼드대학교에서 사회정책학 박사학위(DPhil)를 취득하였다. 동아시아 복지생산체제에 관한 박사학위 논문으로 Oxford Barnett Research Award와 APPAM Outstanding Dissertation Award를 수상하였으며, 교토대학교와 이화여자대학교에서 교수로 재직한 바 있다.
주요 연구 분야는 복지국가, 노동시장, 불안정 노동, 노동시장 정책이며, 특히 디지털 전환과 플랫폼 자본주의가 아시아 노동시장과 복지국가에 미치는 정치경제적 변화를 중심으로 연구하고 있다. 주요 저서로는 Varieties of Precarity: Melting Labour and the Failure to Protect Workers in the Korean Welfare State(2023)가 있으며, 『보이지 않는 노동자들』(2024), 『광장 이후』(2025, 공저) 등을 출간하였다.
학술 연구뿐 아니라 공공정책과 시민사회 영역에서도 활발히 활동하고 있다. 국무총리실 청년정책조정위원회 초대 민간 부위원장, 제4차 국민연금발전위원회 위원 등을 역임했으며, 한국여성단체연합 이사, 민주노총 자문위원으로 활동하고 있다. 현재 「아시아의 디지털화, 불안정 노동, 복지국가 개혁」 국제 공동연구를 수행하고 있으며, 캐나다 York University Global Labour Research Centre의 External Associate로 활동 중이다. 현재 독일 Freie Universität Berlin 방문교수로 재직 중이다.
Professor Sophia Seung-yoon Lee is a Full Professor in the School of Social Welfare at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea. She earned her DPhil in Social Policy from the University of Oxford, where her dissertation on East Asian welfare production regimes received both the Oxford Barnett Research Award and the APPAM Outstanding Dissertation Award. Prior to her current position, she held academic posts at Kyoto University in Japan and Ewha Womans University in Seoul.
Her research centers on welfare states, labor markets, precarious employment, and labor market policy, with a particular focus on the political economy of digital transformation and platform capitalism in Asia. Her notable works include her 2023 book Varieties of Precarity: Melting Labour and the Failure to Protect Workers in the Korean Welfare State (Policy Press), alongside Invisible Workers (2024) and the co-authored After the Square (2025), both in Korean.
Beyond academia, Professor Lee has been active in public policy and civil society. From 2020 to 2022, she served as inaugural civilian vice-chair of the Youth Policy Coordination Committee under the Prime Minister’s Office and also was a member of the 4th National Pension Development Committee. She has served on the board of Korean Women’s Associations United, advises the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), and is a regular columnist for major national newspapers in South Korea.
Professor Lee currently leads an international research project on Digitalization, Precarious Work and Welfare State Reform in Asia. In summer 2025, she held a Research Collaboration Fellowship at the York Centre for Asian Research and is an External Associate of the Global Labour Research Centre at York University, Canada. Currently, she is a Visiting Professor at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.

안산 지역에서 시민단체 활동가로 청년들을 만나며 청년들의 삶의 취약성에 문제의식을 가져왔습니다. 특히 노동시장의 변화와 가족구조의 변화가 교차하며 만들어지는 청년의 가족돌봄과 불안정노동 문제에 관심을 가지고 있습니다. 청년세대의 노동불안정과 삶의 취약성을 완화할 수 있는 정책적 대안을 연구하고자 합니다.
